The original photograph above was used to create both of the effects below.

The first effect is softer.  The underlying line drawing lends more detail.  The second is more impressionistic and contains visible brush strokes.

Similar to effects seen on the first page, this one employs the use of vivid color to accentuate the color variety in the original photograph.

Here's an art nouveau effect and a pastel line drawing that work nicely with portraits.

Because this effect is very subtle, it may be difficult to appreciate on the web.  The original photograph was taken from a moving boat at night so blur was inevitable.  The photo seemed to be a lost cause until this painterly effect was applied.  Now, it really is a beautiful photograph.
